BENE GREINER

emotions of normal people

Running time: 75 minutes

by BENE GREINER

Bene Greiner’s debut play is about the first comic superheroine Wonder Woman and her creator, the comic book author, psychologist, and self-declared feminist William Moulton Marston. At the same time, EMOTIONS OF NORMAL PEOPLE is author’s self-referential narrative about the ups and downs of a rehearsal process, with actual and invented events increasingly condensing into a story that is always about the truth. The Lasso of Truth is Wonder Woman’s primary tool and weapon; a magical golden lariat that forces anyone captured within it to obey the wielder’s commands and tell the truth (BTW: Marston and his wife Elizabeth Holloway also invented an early prototype of the lie detector). In his half documentary, half fictional story, Bene Greiner takes the game of truth to the extreme. Half-jokingly, he questions his own position. How should he, a male artist in post #MeToo reality, treat this ambivalent superheroine of the 1940s, who was perceived as both an emancipated role model, and a male fantasy projection?

Bene Greiner was member of the ensemble at theatres in Frankfurt, Bern, and Graz. In 2015 he was nominated by “Theater Heute” as Best Young Artist. Today he works as actor, speaker and director in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
