LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
DEAR FRIENDS
!

  1. We are happy to invite you to the eighth edition of THESPIS - the only international festival of monodramas in Germany.

  2. What is a “monodrama”?  The British character actor and passionate solo performer, Roy Dotrice once said: „Acting solo is the ultimate in egotism. You require an exceedingly large ego to stand up there and think you can hold an audience’s attention for a couple of hours. It’s just you out there, no one else. There’s no one to foul you up by stepping on your laugh or giving you the wrong cue.”

  3. However, it is not only solo performers who derive fun and satisfaction from what they do and experience freedom while on stage. When everything goes as planned, it is also the audience, who feel exactly the same.  In this global solo theatre, the viewer gets a chance to be a part of the whole, one of the boards that mean the world. He is the contact person and the confidant of the actor who tells a story which is either as big or as small as the life itself – and language, origin, or social background of neither of them is of any relevance. Nevertheless, we are happy that we did it again – we managed to invite artists from four continents to Kiel – most of them for the first time. They will present the current status quo of the world monodrama to you.  Should there be any such thing…

  4. We wish you lively entertainment and stimulating debates!
