In his piece AU MILIEU DU DESORDRE (IN THE MIDDLE OF DISORDER) Pierre Meunier talks about several things: stones, coil springs, piles, fall and movement. But his main theme is taking time – time to marvel, to be amazed and sympathize. Time spent marvelling and laughing with this tinkerer, juggler of words and philosophical alchemist is the fountain of youth for one’s views and mind.
Meunier puts it this way: “The story I tell on stage is important. But so are the props I use. They are carefully chosen, and everything is meant to co-exist and harmonize. As I write the text, it may happen that I invent a system that works better than words. Then an image, a picture, or a machine can say much more than words can express. But it also functions the other way round – when I work with objects, words or expressions come to my mind. This is a creative process of working in both directions and it helps me stay open for ideas. I hope that after my show, the viewers go out and perceive a pile of stones in a different way. I believe that my plays open people to their own inner strength. It is as if they suddenly become thirsty again; it is the thirst that was always there, but it was blocked. They start to feel it again.”
