WILD/DEER IS SHY

Reading

written and performed byKAREN KÖHLER

A woman / a high chair / a forest / a foam mat / a karrimat / a sleeping bag / a blanket / a water canister / a bird identifying book / a notebook / a pen / a kalimba / a muesli bar ...

In fragments of a diary the inner life of a woman who has chosen to die fans out. An evening full of deer, foxes, forests, sadness, anger, tenderness and nature…

WILD IST SCHEU (“wild” is the German word for both “wild” and “deer”) was written by Karen Köhler for a joint project with Sandra Hüller, but it was originally intended as a prose text and not meant to be a theatre performance.

Although both, Köhler and Hüller, are actresses, they discovered other forms to express their art. Karen Köhler started to write five years ago, and Sandra Hüller composed her first three songs for a 2009 theatre production. They decided to work on a project together – with Sandra as a musician and Karen as a writer. They accidentally created a new genre: the concert-reading-performance-thing.
